In the 1930 census, under the place of birth column, two of my ancestors (who apparently lived on the same block - Max and Michael Weissman) put that they were born in Austria-Hungary. Written on top of it appears to be an abbreviation of some kind - E.N.S. I have searched the internet quite extensively to figure out what that could mean but still no luck. I stumbled upon an old thread from feb 2003 on RootsWeb.com but in the end they never seem to figure it out either.
