We are trying to promote good research practices as much as possible, so I'm glad that you feel you are receiving some help from others here. Your mention of the 1950 Census is one of the major problems that does need to be addressed, though, since the 1950 Census has not been released and won't be until 2022. The U.S. Census that are available are from 1790 -1940 (1940 was just released a few months ago) and are searchable from a number of places. One thing you will learn is that it is very important to keep a record of not only any data you collect, but of where exactly you found the information, most often referred to as a "Source Document" by experienced researchers. Citing sources correctly is something you will learn as you research, and it is never too soon to start that.
