For Joel Weintraub-I am continually amazed as I expect you are to see the total lack of information about census releases and also the lack of information about the availability of birth, marriage, ect. info on current people. Many do not know that the census is released only after 72 years and many also do not realize that privacy concerns keep out much other info. As far as the census, it might be nice since so many people are interested, for Ancestry to put some sort of info that by law the census for a particular decade is released only after 72 years have passed.
Another is the lack of the 1890 census which burned. I have a good friend who is a certified genealogist and she mentioned to me that she went to the library hunting the 1890 census and when she was told the library did not have it, she said "but I need it." We all do but unfortunately we will never have that one with the exception of a very small percentages of precincts where someone there retained the information.
