First of all, I am new to this whole research thing, so bear with me. I have always assumed that the information gathered in the US census records would be accurate. I recently was researching my grandfather, on my mother's side, and for years have had no luck, until signing up with Ancestry. I was quickly guided to a portion of the 1900 US census which showed the name of a person living with my mom's family. When I researched this person, I found him, along with a host of family names that I recognized, along with the name of my here-to-for lost grandpa. Problem is, his is listed as a female.
So, my question is, is this kind of error common with the census information??
