My grandfather Frank Starrett (dob 29 Mar 1879 Malin Co Donegal)went to South Africa with the Royal Irish Constabulary Anglo Boer War (Boer War 1899). He joined the SA Constabulary (No 3279 3rd Class Tpr S.A.C.) after his one year contract with the RIC was up and got an honourable discharge after two years of service.
