I believe Alexander was born on 27 September 1829 to Richard Simpson (1787-1861) & Janet Penman Bowman (1789-1861). Married Mary Bayne (c1827-1891) and had children Richard (1854-1887), Euphemia (1855), Janet (1857), Alexander (1860), Mary (1862) and, posthumously, Hellen (1863). A policeman, he died in 1862 in Radernie, Cameron, Fife.

Richard married Jane Marnoch and had children Alexander (1877), Richard (1879), Peter (1881, d1969 Canada), Jane (1883) and William (1885). Jane was the daughter of Peter Marnoch and Janet Clark and was born 8 Sep 1857 in Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire. Richard was a Bleachfield worker, and after his death, Jane took a job as a Yarn Bleacher.
