BURNING NEGRO HOMES
Grand Jury to Investigate Dewey Affair
BARTLESVILLE, Okla., Aug.26.-(Special)-
Warrants have been issued by the county attorney's office
for the arrest of thirty men alleged to have been implicated
in the burning of the negro homes at Dewey, following the
killing of Chief of Police Walter Mull by Aaron Wardlow, a
negro barber. The warrants were sworn to by Deputy Fire
Marshal McConnell after he had made a personal investigation
at the scene of the riot.
The grand jury will be called by Judge R.B. Boone at the
opening of the September term of court and at least 100
witnesses will be called upon to testify. Many of the men
for whom warrants were served are prominent in the community
and all have given bond for their appearance.
