I have been researching the surname Tharp. I understand they are related to the "Clanton Gang". I just happened on this, because I was looking for Perrys. My e-mail aeveringham@earthlink.net. Please let me hear from you. Ann

My Elizabeth's grandfather, Edward, was the brother of John CLANTON, Sr., the gg grandfather of Ike and Billy CLANTON.
Here is the info I have on Ike and Billy's line.

1) William CLANTON, Sr, b. 1665
2) John CLANTON, Sr., b. 1708
3) John CLANTON, Jr. b 1758

Sorry, I saw a mistake as soon as I posted. I meant to say that Elizabeth CLANTON married Matthew DUKE, SR. not Matthew DUKE, JR. As you can see in my line, Elizabeth was the mother of Matthew DUKE, JR. I apologize for any confusion.

Hi,
In researching my husband's Clanton line, I came across your message. We are seeking the parents and/or sibling of my husband's gg-grandmother Mary M. Clanton b. abt. 1847. We have been told that she died in Francis, OK in 1903. Mary married William Thomas LANE abt. 1874 or 1875. They had one known son, William Franklin Thomas LANE b. 10-11-1876 Moravian Falls, NC, the same year his father died. From this, I would assume that Mary may have remarried, but I'm still working on that.
Do you have any further descending lines on what you posted online, and if so, is there a Mary M. CLANTON among them as listed above?
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards,
Helen LANE

Helen,
I checked my Clanton file, and can't find a Mary M. Clanton. I have some Marys in the 1700's, and, of course, you saw Mary Elsie, b. 1851, sibling of Ike and Billy. Those are the only ones I have listed. I wish I could be of more help. Good luck with your search.

Re: Clanton... THARP

Hello Ann. Some people believe that THARP is a misspelling of THORPE/THORP. Our VA THORPEs comes out of my dad's dad's COBBE/COBBS/COBB side and the CLANTONs come out of my mother's mother's CLANTON/HOLT/ROGERS/HICKS/RYAN/KINSLOW/DOUGHERTY/BONNER/LINDER side.

See my latest postings on my CLANTON Gang connection.

Hope that this helps some.
Peace and blessings.
