I just today returned from a trip to savannah. I took the tour (trolley tour) , and the driver did specifically mention the tunnels, as we drove by the 'pirate house, as well as the notion of being "shanghaiid" in a drunken stupor, whilst in a time and town where rum was illegal.
The pirate house also served as inspirational for robert louis stephenson "treasure island" (r5emember the inn wher the character tom was, in the beginning of the book) it actually looked familiar to me, perhaps from the movie, or illustrations from the book. The town of Savannah is wonderfully rich in history, and a nice place to visit. I also stayed one night on an island called tyvee, about half hour from savannah. It was probably pirate heaven, back in the day........It has some beautiful beaches, and i had some very frightening dreams the one night i stayed on the beach. I am coninced the area , and its specific "energy" was responsible for these vivid, scary dreams that made me wake in a cold, sweaty panic, dreaming i was running from what looked like well.....pirates. sounds crazy but its true. sincierly, pabz...p.s. pls pardon my typing.
