I have been looking online for information on Pirates In Savannah Georgia. I have heard Savannah was a wild and dirty town in the early days and there are claims here that it was somewhat of a pirate town. Stories here claim many sailors were "shanghai'd" as was the term used for getting a sailor drunk then putting him on a ship as a crew member without his permission. The Sailor would "come to" from his drunk and find himself already out to sea. There is a resturant here in Savannah named the "Pirate House" that claims its fame from being a "pirate hangout" There are also rumors and stories of a tunnel from its depths to the riverfront that shanghai'd sailors were transported through to the ships. I have researched online and haven't found one mention of Savannah. Charleston, Beaufort yes, but Savannah no. With all the channels and barrier islands here is seems a perfect place for their use. There is even an island near Savannah named "Blackbeards Island" I know they travelled back and forth past Savannah so I'm sure it was one of their stopping points. Anyone with any information, please email me or leave a message here.
