I took a very specific DNA test in the past, and my results reflected Moroccan, East African, and Iberian Ancestry. My genealogy research has somewhat supplemented these findings. The test, however, said I was West African and Scandinavian. My Scandinavian ancestry is less than 6%, yet ancestry.com's test said it was about 15%. Before I ordered the test, I called the customer svc department and told them about my previous findings. I asked if this test would specify African region or just lump it all into one region. I got two different answers: one guy said it would indeed specify the region, ie-South Africa, East, West, or Northern. My phone disconnected and when I called back, the woman who answered said the test was not sophisticated enough to specify regions yet, so no matter where my ancestors came from, it would lump them into West Africa. Ghana and Egypt are two different places!! I am not thoroughly disappointed since I'd prepared for this, but I do feel that essentially, we paid to enter their registry so that when they opened it to the public, their database would be complete.
