Darin, the thing to remember regarding admixture: we do not get ALL the ancestry genes from those on 'paper' - these are two completely different scenarios for research.

Blaines website on this specifically:

Oxford has done their own study in regards to finding LARGE amounts of what is considered 'scandanavian' genes in the British Isles 'pool', and as they say, Britain was the melting pot for many long before the USA ! whether from those traveling through, or plundering, etc - it does make sense. So having this Finnish/Volga-Ural show up makes even more sense, long ago, many were nomads, and while some may be lucky to have a very detailed, 100% certain on paper trail, there is always that chance of NPE - I have found many within my own research on my fathers line in DK and Germany, my own husbands father and that of his GG'mother and that of my GGG norwegian grandparents. Only the woman involved carrying the child could tell you about the bio father, and if she didnt? than we will not know. But the DNA will be a clue.

Several blogs to read in regards to all of this:
