Triangulation

I match 3 people who have in their surnames a family dating back to the 1600s -- call them family X. This family I have long suspected married into my proven family - family Y- dating back to 1730s. Each of these 3 people descend from different branches of family X. If we are related it would date back to about 5th grt grandparents or before. I have contacted all three to see if their DNA matches each other -- but they only match me. Since our ancestor's DNA may combine differently in each of us, could we still be related through family X? Or does the fact that they didn't match each other rule out this surname and I need to look at other surnames in their tree for our match? Could the raw data we all await from Ancestry show all three matches with segments of family X in the same location on the chromosome, and would this make it still possible we are related through family X? I don't quite understand what the raw data will reveal. Thanks for any help.
