The Vannoy DNA project administrator is looking for participants from the DuVernoy or Vernoy family that decend from the 1300's French family or carry the family name. We can do this test free, as long as you qualify as to family genealogy. We are asking so that our family can explore finding a connection to this ancient family, to be able to find a common ancestor
Our Vannoy ancestor's family fled from France to Holland and later to England during the reign of King Charles I, and it is thought that the father of our ancestor fought under the bannor of Oliver Cromwell during the wars in England. They were French protestants or huguenot. The name in france is thought to have been spelled Vannoise or Vernois.
Our ancestor was listed as John Vernor with his wife Mrs. Vernor, coming to America abt 1685-86 on the ship 'Henry and Francis' from the Road of Leith, Scotland on Sep.5th 1685. Landing at Perth Amboy. His wife Rachel's surname is thought to have been Cornwall or Cornwell and is thought to have been related to a titled family.
I hope that this bit of information about our ancestor will lead to anyone with these surnames contacting the DNA project in the hope of helping us shead light on our family.
