I recently discovered through a collection of family anecdotes and facts that my Great x3 Grandfather owned a pub in Charing Cross Road called the Palace Tavern, I did a search for it in Google and it came up as being closed in 1960. How do I go about finding more information on him? Would there be any publican records or anything stored in any local archives? The pub could have been called the Tam O'Shanter when it was under his ownership and we reckon it was for less than 3 years.
His name is Arthur Robert Cripps is this is of any help.
This is a small history I found online of the pub in question:
"No. 103 Charing Cross Road
Formerly Nos. 66 and 64 Crown Street
A public house called the Bull's Head stood on this site from at least 1759 until 1893. At the time of the opening of Charing Cross Road in 1887 the building was enlarged and repaired to the designs of R. W. Read and its name was changed, firstly in 1894 to the Tam o'Shanter, and again in 1900 to the Palace Tavern. It ceased to be used as a public house in 1960, and is now occupied by a firm of caterers."
