Arabella Holland & Georgiana Conkey

I am searching for my paternal great grandmothers who both resided in what is today the Newark, Delaware area. Arabella Holland was a mulatto woman born abt. 1854 She may have been given to Perry & Mary Holland at birth to be raised. There is a close relationship between her & the Abieja James family. Mr. James was a worker who lived on the Cooch family land. Georgianna Conkey, brn 1858 is my other great grandmother. Little is known about her other than she had two sons. One named Chris & the Other named Charles Wesley Conkey, my grandfather. Somehow in later years his name was changed to Charles Wesley Wilson.

I am looking for my Great Great grandfather Sampson Anderson born in the Raleigh, Durham area about 1854. His wife was named either Jane or Janes. He was either native American or Mulatto. Looking for information on Millers that may been on the border of DE and PA, specifically Hutchinson(Miller),born in about 1827, do not have fathers name at this time, He married a Hunter. Her father was Jacob Hunter born about 1788. Any information appreciated.

Notes: The only Negro bishop of the Episcopal Church in America, the Rev. Edward T. Demby, suffragan bishop of Arkansas, died here yesterday at Ingelside Hospital. Bishop Demby, 88, who was granted his bachelor of divinity degree by Wilberforce University in 1929, is listed in Who's Who. Born in Wilmington, Del., Bishop Demby had his first parish in Mason, Tenn. Bishop Demby had lived at 10519 Englewood Ave., with his wife, Antoinette Ricks, the first registered Negro nurse in Cleveland. She died last year. They had been married 53 years. Services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at Trinity Cathedral. Among those participating will be Bishop Nelson M. Burroughs; the Rev. Beverley D. Tucker, retired bishop; the Rev. John C. Davis of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Tolly Caution of New York.

The following two lists were compiled by Isaac Starr beginning in 1794, including the names of residents of Wilmington, DE who lived past the age of sixty. In 1845 these lists were published in "A History of the Original Settlements on the Delaware" by Benjamin Ferris.

The "FIRST LIST" gives the names of individuals who were over sixty in 1794 when the survey began.

The "SECOND LIST" gives the names of residents who were added later.
