NEW LONDON – Netherene (Law) Meredith departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.
She was born in Southland, Georgia, to the late Tom and Mary Law on April 10, 1920.
Netherene attended Southland Public Schools.
She was married to Kline Meredith in New London, CT. on June 30, 1953. He predeceased her in 1963.
She also resided in Struthers, Ohio and attended St. John’s A.M.E. Church.
Netherene resided at Huntington Towers in New London, CT. until she recently moved to New London Rehabilitation. She retired from Mallove’s Jewelry in 1982.
She was a member of the Walls Temple, AME Zion Church, and served on the usher board. She was also a member of Excelsior Temple No. 144, Daughter of Elks.
In addition, she was a life member of the National Council of Negro Women and the NAACP.
Her hobbies were cooking, entertaining, playing bid whist, traveling and watching professional baseball games. Her favorite team was the Red Sox.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four nieces, Betty Jean Stanley, Delores Clarke, Clementine Anderson and Mary Agnes Mack; two nephews, John Turner and Richard Wilcher, all of Miami Gardens, Fla.; and two cousins, Annette Milner of Windsor and Bettye Jackson of Hartford, CT.; her goddaughter, Dorothy Felton of Columbia, S.C.; her extended family members of Excelsior Temple No. 144; a special friend, Jean Jordan; and her guardian and dear friend, Gloria Dover.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Walls Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. Calling hours are from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The Lester Gee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
