In search of African American HAWK families. I am a g-grandson of GREEN HAWK m. LOVINIA HAWK. After the Civil War, Green was a sharecropper working on land from Hillsman Hawk's estate. Later around 1895 he purchased 123 1/2 acres in the same area near Sandy Creek. He passed away in 1912 and is buried in Ivey Cemetery. His wife Lovinia passed away in 1916. They had many children. John, William, Lou(ise?) .I 'Thompson', Mary Frances 'Harris', and B (Their names were not identified in any census data while living with their parents), Andrew Cornelius, Homer, Green Jr., Ardless Benjamin (my grandfather), and Adley. I have not collected information from the 1930 census, but there are still a good number of HAWK family members living in Monroe, Atlanta. This line also migrated to Michigan in Detroit, Flint, Port Huron. We have one in Toledo, OH. We also have families in Sacramento, CA. If your research takes you back to the turn of the century 1900, then you can validate this information. I also have information posted on The Walton County website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawalton/. I also posted some Hawk/ MALCOM slave data under miscellaneous link.
