I read your message asking about African American's with the last name Cupit. My grandfather moved north to Pennsylvania from Virginia. His name was George Cupit. My father told me that his grandfather did not like talking about his past. So we thought he may have been a run away slave because he could not read or write. I got that information from a Census Report.
