YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mrs. Maggie Mae Mitchell, 73, who departed this life at her residence on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Mitchell was born May 10, 1939, in Hernando, Mississippi,(Desoto County) a daughter of Andrew and Georgia Rodgers Stigall.
She had been employed by the Youngstown City Schools as a Lunch Aide and had also been employed by Maui Toys and Holiday Inn.
She was a faithful member of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Senior Choir, member of the Usher Board, Pastor’s Aide and Missionary Ministries and was Youth Choir Adviser.
She had also been a member of the Gospel Travelers Singing Group.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lisa (Keiln) Stevens; a niece whom she helped rear, Betty Banks, both of Youngstown; four sisters, Lela (Marchell) Moore of Youngstown, Ethel Lee Rayvorn of Nesbitt, Miss., Isabelle Stigall and Margaret (Maurice) Jones, both of Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Henry Stigall of Memphis and Jerry Stigall of Kansas City; five grandchildren, Brittney Trevathan, Saqoyia Harris, Lesa Monet Oliver, Selena Howard and William Oliver III; two great-grandchildren, one whom she helped rear, Mia Benjamin and Carlyia Moore; a great-niece and great-nephew, Lawanda and Thaddeus Banks Jr., whom she also helped rear; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Leon, whom she married Nov. 19, 1957, and who passed away March 5, 2000; a son, Leon Anthony Mitchell; a sister, Josephine Harris Stigall; and a brother, Joe Stigall.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 747 Willow St.
Friends may call two hours prior to the services, 9 to 11 a.m., at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
