Gist Settlement Relatives

Hi All,

I have traced my family back to the 5th generation (David and Elizabeth Rollins) who were descendants of slaves emancipated from Virginia plantations around the early 1800's owned by an Englishman named Samuel Gist. My problem is an interesting one because I have a very detailed listing of the slaves he owned on all his plantations but it is from 1783 which is a full generation or two before my Rollins relatives show up on the Ohio census. Does anyone have any idea how to begin to bridge the gap from the 1783 list to the 1820 census. My grandmother only remembers that Elizabeth Rollins mother was a slave and nothing else?
