Yes, there were Plantations in those areas, Plantations were usually founded by water ways, this provided access for transporting, and rich soil. Most Plantations did not close down until after the 1930's. If you notice after 1880 blacks were listed as farmer laborers with white neighbors, and renters. In 1900's listed as farmers, day laborers, housekeeping,etc., with black neighbors, some own their homes, and had boarders, or servants. Now use the male descendants names and crossmatch them with the names of Slaveowners (1700's to 1870) in those regions. It does not determine biological connection, but it is a marker, and can reveal through tax records if your ancestors were there.
