MANSFIELD, Ohio: Elder Givan Griffea, 96, of 507 Bryden Rd., died Sunday, September 16, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
Givan Griffea was born on Friday, September 8, 1916 to the late Isaac and Annie Searcy Griffea in Ripley, Tennessee and had lived in Mansfield, Ohio the past 60 years.
He was an employee of the Mansfield CPC/GM Plant retiring in 1978 after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Maddox Memorial COGIC prior to becoming the founder and pastor of his own church the Jesus Of Nazareth COGIC beginning his ministry April 4, 1980.
Elder Griffea remained the pastor of the church until 2008. During his tenure at the church he also served as District Superintendent of the Mansfield-Marion District Church Of God In Christ.
Givan is survived by his wife Gloria Elizabeth (Trammell) Griffea; 2 daughters: Rayvonne (William) Brown, Mansfield, Ohio, Rev.Teresa Rembert, Columbus, Ohio, 4 grandchildren: Dante' and Terence Rembert, Michael Griffea, and Gwen Brown; 2 great grandchildren Mytez, Trinitee Rembert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents his 2 Sisters; 1 Brother; and a special cousin Aldophan Griffea preceded Givan in death.
Friends may call Friday after 2 p.m. in the New Jerusalem Progressive C.O.G.I.C. where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at the church with Elder David Dennis officiating.
Interment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park Cemetery.
