I found some information that may help pin down the "right" African American STOKLEY family in Lauderdale County, TN.
First, David or Davis Stokly, married to Lula, on the 1930 census, was not David on previous censuses - his real name was Harvey Stokly. He was born 18 March 1878, possibly the son of ?? Henry Stokley, born 1850 and Kittie, born 1858.
Two other men contemporary in age, so may be possible brothers are:
Isreal L. Stokley, born 15 Sept 1876, married to Lucy.
John Levi Stokley. born 19 Jan 1881, married to Abbie, died 15 Aug 1968.
Harvey Stokely married 25 December 1901 Lauderdale Co., TN, Lula Halliburton. She was born about 1883, the daughter of Henry Halliburton and Nealie Jones. Lula died at age 49 yrs. 5 Jan 1933 in Curve, TN, of pneumonia, and was buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Ripley, Lauderdale, TN.
Harvey and Lula had the following children:
Harvey W. 1917
Frankie (female) 1923
Harvey married for the second time between 1933-40 a woman named Mamie, born about 1885. Both were alive through the 1940 census, and shared their home with his yougest child, 16 year old Frankie.
Hope this helps!
