I have come to believe that he was Bohemian (Czech).

The first records of any kind that I can find for him is a marriage record in Chikasaw County, Iowa. The township in Iowa where he seems to have originated was populated by a large Bohemian community.

Shortly after his marriage, he moved to a farm in Trempealeau county Wisconsin. Which put him right in the middle of one of the larges Norwegian Settlements in the US.

He is a total mystery .....
