Dear Mr Bruce:
I was responsible for the creation of the Scottish Clans
message boards and mailing lists in 2001-2002.
My reply to you is long overdue and I apologize for
that. My schedule in 2002 had suddenly taken a major
turn in terms of my other responsbilities so I released
all of the message boards and mailing lists to other
people that could devote more time to the duties.
Your statements and position are absolutely correct
in all aspects.
There were several difficulties and aspects regarding
these pages that perhaps will help clarify the situation.
A: The control board of Rootsweb required a means to assess
the legitimate background in order to establish new message
boards and mailing lists. I had wanted to use the Lyon court
but they demanded a web site with ready access. That
web site was then the basic reference point ( over my
B: The Administration also decided that we could not label
some groups as a Clan and some groups as a Family.
So again to resolve the issues and at least get a central
point where Scottish ancestors, Culture etc could be
discussed, we finally agreed to use the modifier "Clan"
C: The surname group "Bruce" was also being used
and is still a frequent place for members of the Bruce
family to post. There is always some questions as to
when the Culture, Music, gatherings etc are allowed
on those pages and boards.
I hope this helps to clarify the situation and my deepest
apologies if the use of the term Clan offends you and
anyone of the family that has such deep roots in Scotland.
