I have Cameron Ancestors in the Cumberlnad area of England. I am back to the beginning of the 19th century and wondered if the Cameron family I have could have descended from the scottish clan

I have a John Cameron marrying a Margaret Edmundson on the 3rd April 1802. They had Margaret, Joseph, William, John, Robert Thomas, Edmundsonand George.

Margaret married Joseph FELL and when he had died in 1832 she married a Johnathon WALKER

Captain Charles Lochiel Cameron (b 1815), of the Cameronians

I am the Great-great-great-nephew of Captain Charles Lochiel Cameron of the Cameronians (26th Regiment of Foot), who, according to his American great-grandchildren, was born 13 April, 1815, at Achnacarry Castle, Lochaber, Inverness-shire, Scotland, the son of Donald Cameron, of 15 Rodney Street, Liverpool, England. I am inclined to doubt that Captain Cameron was born in Achnacarry Castle; instead I believe he was probably born either in Newcastle, Northumberland, England, or at Reigate, Surrey, England (one of his older siblings was born in Newcastle & a younger sibling at Reigate).

Since many of the male descendants of Captain Charles Lochiel Cameron bear the middle name of Lochiel, & since he was definitely a member of the landed gentry (his wife, Eliza Long (b 1825), was the granddaughter of Col. Richard Long (1740-1814), of Longfield House, Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland, by his wife, Charity Moore (1760-1842), of Barne, Clonmel, Tipperary, granddaughter of Sir Thomas Taylor, 2nd baronet of Headfort, Kells, Meath, Ireland), I am inclined to believe that he may have belonged to a cadet line that branched off from the aristocratic Camerons of Lochiel in the 16th or 17th century. Captain Charles Cameron's brother was the eminent physician, Dr John Cameron (1819-1906), of 4 Rodney Street, Liverpool, whom his descendants claim, successfully operated on Queen Vctoria.

I am attempting to help my American Cameron cousins trace their Cameron lineage, & would appreciate any assistance anyone might be able to offer.

Clan Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates

Scottish Clan Research and Events

Dear All:

The purpose of this message board is to provide information
on the Scottish Clan. Surname Research should still be
posted on the Surname message board or mailing list.
The Clan mailing list and message boards are gatewayed
together so this message will be relayed over to the mailing
list This Clan board and mailing list are intended to cover
subjects that would normally be considered off topic in the
surnames.

We used the list from the “Great Hall of the
Clans” as our guide to the Clan list. The Lord Lyon has
referenced this site from their site so it has some degree
of acceptance from an official source. That was also the
guide to the spellings of the Clan name.

The Clan mailing list and Clan message boards are
for anyone with a genealogical or historical interest
in the Scottish Clan and their Septs. Acceptable Topics
include searches for Clan ancestors; discussions
of Clan history, culture, food, language, coats of arms,
tartans, and major events that changed the course of
the Clan.
Current events such as the main Clan gathering,
rebuilding of the Clan Castle, news from archives or
museums; and notices of Clan gatherings and meetings
from the official regional and international Clan
Associations are also encouraged.

I’ve suggested some threads so you can easily post directly
under that thread for easy follow-up. Please feel free to add
