I would like to have contact with any relatives of my grandmother Annie Matilda Cunningham. She married William Arthur Franklin Lovegrove date not known. Annie was born 4-6-1866 in Ayr and died in London 13-11-1950. I have no knowledge of any other family on this side, but would like to. Thanks.

I recently found this board and am happy I have! I am a descendant of the Cunningham Clan, my first known anscestor in America was Joseph, who was granted land in Lancaster Co. PA. and was born ca. 1710 perhaps Kilkerney Scotland. His son Hugh I born ca 1741 Lancaster Co. PA. died Rowen Co. NC., his son Hugh II born 1-1-1795, Reedy Creek, Rowan Co. NC died 10-22-1877 Old Tishomingo, MS. (this part of Old Tishomingo Co. is now Prentiss Co. MS.) and is buried at Macky's Creek Cemetery. His son Alfred Lloyd Cunningham, born Rowen Co. NC 10-22-1824 died 3-10-1910 in Prentiss Co. MS. is my 2nd great-grandfather. Alfred served during the War for Southern Independance with the Calvary for the CSA. Hugh I served in the American Revolution. Can anyone tell me about this family? If there is more info needed I can supply it as well as a photo of Alfred from either the very late 1800s or very early 1900s.

May I suggest that you go to the www.scotpress.com website. They have a service called "scotcopy" through which, some years ago, I obtained the chapter dealing with the earls of Glencairn from "The Scots Peerage." The source is one of the best in print and the price was quite reasonable.

Since your posting lacks replies I wanted to advise you that I have, for the past 5 years, been portraying Alexander in Renaissance Fairs and Highland Games in CA and NV. My mother's father was William Cunningham, born in Edinburgh in the latter part of the 19th C. She was first gen. American, born in VA in 1900. I have no threads back to Scotland through Wm., but discovered that Alexander was quite a colorful character and chose him as my character model.

Alexander Cunninghame, 5th Earl of Glencairn

I was wondering how I would find any information on Alexander Cunninghame, 5th Earl of Glencairn who married Lady Johanna Hamilton. I do not have any dates as I found this line in a book on Royal Genealogies. Alexander would be my 14th great grandfather.

All I know on William is that he died in 1581 and married Janet Gordon of Lochinvan.
Any help in pointing me to info on him would be appreciated also.

On James all I have is that he married Margaret Campbell of Glenurchy. I would really like to find this family. I don't know where to start or how to find them in Scotland.

I have heard a story about the origin of our family (Cunningham) crest. The story that I have heard is that the crest has a fork on it and thre is a banner on the crest that says over fork over. The story I have heard is that an ancester hid Robert the Bruce in a hay stack when the british were looking for him. our ancester to prove that the king was not there passed the pitch fork through the hay stack to prove the king was not there. The crest was given to the family after Robert the Bruce became king of scotland. Can you confirm this story and give me the persons name.

Clan Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Please start a separate sub-thread for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates
