The Clan Donald DNA project is open to all men with surnames that are variants of MacDonald. Currently, 4 Donald men have results already posted on the project results tables. Although none of these men have DNA matches with other Donald men in the project, 2 of them have multiple DNA matches in the project with men of other surnames.

Two of the Donald participants have results which link them to the old Irish king Niall of the Nine Hostages. One of these men has close matches with two men. One of those is a McConnell, and McConnell and Donald are both variants of MacDonald. Another match has the surname Manees.

Two of the men have been classified into a catchall group. One of those men has perfect matches with 2 McConnell men and 2 MacDonald men, but his results for 12 markers are not enough to say whether he is closely related to any of these men.
