Robertsons from Calvine, Blair Atholl, Perthshire

Hi all,

I'm currently researching some of my ancestors, a Robertson family from Perthshire, and I wondered if anyone might be able to offer me any assistance in tracing them further. I've hit a bit of a brick wall due to the large numbers of Robertsons in Blair Atholl Parish, where my ancestors came from, and so it's hard to tell which family is which.

My great great great grandmother was one Jessie Robertson, wife of George MacFarlane, Gardener, Dunbar. She was born in 1813 at Calvine Farm, Blair Atholl Parish, and her parents were Donald Robertson, sheep farmer at Calvine, and Isabella Stewart (from her death certificate.) They had four other children, including a son Duncan, and all of them were born in Calvine.

In doing some research into the family on the web, I found that there was a very old family of Robertsons who had been at Calvine farm for centuries. However, not wanting to jump to conclusions about the origins of my family, and realizing that they could simply have moved from one farm to another, I don't want to just assume that they are members of the Calvine line. So I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows a bit about the Robertson clan history, who might be able to help me push this line back further? For example, does anyone know who owned Calvine at the time (presumably among their papers there might be some reference to tenancy agreements with such individuals as my ancestors?)

I really would appreciate any help anyone might be able to give me regarding this!

Thanks,

Andrew Simpson
