I see that clan history is a recommended thread. Then let's get it going. I'm not a clan expert, so I would love to hear from any who claim to be. I'm am a bit of a historian though. My direct line of Galloway's I've traced back to a William who lived in the 1600's and feel reasonably sure his ggrandfather was the same Wm. Galloway noted for bravery in battle w/ Robert Bruce. He received a grant of land from the Dunnes and Bruces and named his first born Robert.
This lineage from then includes lots of William's, Robert's and Marion's, after the Dunnes. Eventually the name Tait emerges in honor of Adam Taite, his daughter Sara married Robert Galloway.
I feel like the actual "clan" is probably an earlier existence dating up to these later Galloway's I've mentioned. No doubt that the first William mentioned was part of a "clan". Perhaps even, generation or two even after that. But, then again, these are the Galloway's I've found mention of. There are probably hundreds that existed at that time who were never documented, the actual Clan Galloway.
I can take the Galloway name back much further and will when I return next.
Please continue this discussion, my friends and family.
Sincerely, Walter J. Galloway
