I seem to have several ancestors who were depoted warriors or covenentors. Some of the stories and family trees indicate the wives were married and/or the children were born prior to immigration but died in the colonies. Did the English deport the whole family? or did those poor guys manage to bring the families over later? I can't quite picture the process whereby a prisoner of war goes home, gets the wife and kids, travels back to port, climbs onto a ship, and sails for months to a wilderness colony. But I can't believe these guys got the money and the coordination needed to transport the family later. Anyone have any info?
