How I would interpret the obit? Simple! Realize that the family furnishes the info for the obit and they simply confused the two James Grants. After all, four generations had elapsed since the 3d Earl. That plus wishful thinking. It happens all the time. That's why you don't want to ever put much stock in obits without verifying the info from another source. Info in obits should never be treated as more than "possible."
