I am a proud member of the Leslie clan and I embrace my Scottish heritage. However, I have an uncle who refuses to believe that the Leslie's are anything other than German. If someone could send me a detailed history of the clan, it would be much appreciated.

Thankyou,

Patrick James Leslie

Has anyone compiled a list of pipers to the chief of Clan Leslie at the Leslie estate in Scotland, years 1800-1900? Am trying to identify an a very good piper and teacher who moved to Loch Duich in 1840s-1850s, owned set of very old pipes, and taught students in area including Macraes, Macdonalds and Finlaysons in Kintail area. Known only as "Leslie's Piper."

Hello Joanne;
You need to find some basic information about your William Leslie, such as:
Date of Birth, Date of Death, (death certificates sometimes show place of birth, and usually date of birth), or place of birth, ans approximate date of birth, then you can search Scots Origins. If you went into Scots Origins with just a name such as William Leslie, you would probably get hundreds of hits, and never be able to sort to your ancestor. You might also search Ships' passenger lists for the year 1881, you might find some basic information. My William Leslies back to my great grandfather, never left Scotland.
Regards
William Leslie

Clan Leslie Society International

The Clan Leslie Society International Needs You!
Dear Clan Folk;
I have served the Clan Leslie Society International as Chieftain, Vice-Chieftain and as Councillor. I believe that my work has helped to advance the history of the CLSI and Clan Leslie, and hopefully added some little part to the distinguished history of the Clan. I hope to have made a contribution to the great history of the Leslie family and its distinguished Septs, by educating people all over the world of the Leslie history and by adding to and preserving the distinguished history of the Leslies, and their importance in Scottish History.
Your help is needed. The Council could use help from other Leslies, Abernathys, Cairneys, Moores and Laings. We have writers, graphic designers, a bookkeeper, a lawyer, a chaplain, a historian, a web page manager, a database manager, a genealogist, regional tent sponsors, business organizers and other managers doing the work of the CLSI.
If you are interested in participating more directly in the work of the CLSI, please send me an email message telling me something of your experience, and in which area of the work of the CLSI you would like to participate. At the present there are no specific vacancies, but later this year the Council will be seeking nominations, and holding elections for some Council positions. Many of the terms for appointed positions are due to end soon and the Chieftain needs to appoint new people to these positions. In return, the camaraderie and new friends you make all over the world by working for our Clan in our great Society will be your reward for giving of your time.
Sincerely,

William Leslie,
CLSI Council
williamleslie@rogers.com
Clan and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Board Admin

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting to All

John A Hansen
Board Admin
