My understanding in doing research is that he married Hannah Lissen after arriving in New Hampshire. He was endentured to her father, Nicholas Lissen. They had 3 children and she died in childbirth with the 3rd child in 1659. He married Margaret(last name unknown). She was an orphan and sent over on the same ship as John at 9 y/o and was endentured until 1660 at age 19. She married John and they had 9 children between 1661 and 1680. Hope this helps.
Barbara

Stirling Castle no longer sells the Argyll and Royal Highlanders regimental whiskey in the museum. But when they did, I'd buy a small bottle and toast the good Brigadier!

The castle is a GREAT visit! The Royal Palace, inside the Castle has been totally renovated and shows the Palace in the reign of King James the Fifth.

Vona Morgan is a sister of my deceased father, Virgil Beene. To the best of my knowledge she is residing in a nursing home in or around Hattisburg, MS. She was married to Jesse Morgan and they had two daughters, Charlotte, who passed away during the past 3 years, and Beverley who lives in Greenwood, MS. She is the only sibling of my father's remaining. His sister, Velera Franks, died on the day my father was buried. Both lived in Itawamba County.

DeWitt, this may be the woman you asked about, in the Social Security Death Index:

VONA E MORGAN, 29 Sep 1927 - 15 Jul 1992. SSN: 439-52-0012, issued: Louisiana.

There are quite a few things you can do with this information. First of all, you can find it yourself at http://ssdi.rootsweb.com , and attach a Postem to her record. This will help cousin/researchers find you.

Second, you can click on the SS-5 link, to generate and print out a letter you send to the SSA requesting her SSN Application. Information about her parents will be on that application, along with her signature!

Third, you can now search for obituaries for her, which will probably add to the information you know have. Most importantly, it will give you the name of the funeral home, which will hold still more records.

I hope this is helpful,

Valorie

Hi Etta,
You have everything quite good. William probably left Scotland at 10 for Ireland, at least that is what I think you meant. We havent traced William and Naomi's upline, other than it is said that Naomi is the daughter of Isaac Bates, which you have. We don't have Williams parents.
I would be glad to trade information with you on this line.
I have quite a bit of it in the Clan database, but always need updates.
I too am a decendant of William Bean and Naomi Bates. My father, Virgil B. Beene, b10-22-1914, is the son of Artie Thurman Beene,b1-27-1888 in MS, son of John Isaac Beene, b4-8-1868,son of Wiley Hopkins Bean, b1-29-1831 (Butts co, GA), son of Wiley Jackson Bean, 1802 in NC, son of John Bean, b10-18-1776 (Laurens Co, SC), son of William Bean, b 1727 or 1730 in Ireland. My records indicate Walter Bean, b1791 in NC was the son of John Bean, who was the son of William Bean and Naomi Bates, who came to SC (from Scotland) on the Admiral Hawk with 3 children in 1767. My records do not contain a father's name for William Bean, but indicates he was 10 years old when he left Ireland with his parents for Scotland. My records indicate Naomi Bates father was "probably" Isaac Bates. I'm always interested in Bean/Beene/Beane history and have quite a bit of information. Is this info helpful?
I believe your genes jumped the track back at William Bean 1727, who emigrated on the Admiral Hawke to Charleston SC from Ireland. He was born 1727, probably near Croy, Inverness according to a conversation of my father with Bernie Bean while living. Bernie had it in notes he was unable to locate from a conversation with family members (he travelled widely in the US). Certainly there was a William Bean in Croy at that time - his father may also have been William (records I have seen at Inverness). My father believes he left Scotland for Ulster before Culloden Field, but don't know the source of that information. I believe he found evidence of Bean in Ulster, but Irish records were mostly lost in fires.

There were several SC Beans fighting in the War of Independence, indicating that there were several branches of the family in NC and SC at that time. I believe that these get mixed up in records. William 1727 enlisted in the Third Regiment on 10 April 1779 under Capt. Felix Warley and was discharged on 1 July, 1781. His son William served in Pickens' brigade before and after the fall of Charlestown. It seems likely that at least the father was at the Battle of Cowpens as the Third Regiment was there; but there is no more evidence than that. Whether the family participated in the battle at Musgrove Mill no one knows, but it was not too far from their cabin.

Bill - Could a Robert MacBean who lived in New Brunswick, might be the Robert Bean who married Mary Cabot 24 June 1792 in Boston, MA, married by Rev. Samuel Stillman? Do you have a list of the children of this Robert MacBean, or the John "Angus" Robert MacBean? The marriage date of either of these 2 people might be the parents of my elusive MOSES BEAN, who supposedly was born in New Hampshire, who married BETSY ELIZA PHILBRICK. Help me please! My maternal grandmother was a Bean from Texas>Alabama>S.Car.>Ireland>Eng>and maybe Scotland.
It goes like this; Maude Bean b. 1890, Tx.>David Bean b. 1869, Ala.>D.M.Bean b. 1828, Ga.>Walter Bean b. 1791 N.Car.>John Bean b. 1776 S.Car.>William Bean b.1727,Ireland was married to Naomi Bates>( I think a William Bean b. abt. 1700,Virginia>Matthew Bean b. abt. 1650. Eng.) Does this line get anywhere near MacBean Clan and Scotland. I sure would be proud to have that blood line. I would be grateful for any help on this subject. Thanks for listening. Is there any way I might obtain a copy of that from you and, if so, how would I go about that?
Henry BEANE b. c1760-65 s/o Thomas BEANE, or John Smith BEAN

Kerry, thank you for your reply and info. Since posting this query I have found Henry's birthdate to be anywhere from 1745 to 1776. The most probable seems to be between 1760 and 1765. Also there is some doubt as to whether Thomas is his father. John Smith Bean (who it appears was decended from King James II by way of his illegitimate daughter Mary Stuart) has been suggested as Henrys father however that has not been proved. From your msg. it would seem your branch of this large and mobile family came by way of New England or even Nova Scota. Other branchs settled all along the eastern seaboard as far south as Jamaca.

Could someone tell me please??? Who were the wives of John Bean of Exeter, and did the one said to have come over here with him really do so??? There are names of Margaret (some have Edwards???) and Hannah Lissen- the sawmill owner's daughter.... How does a POW get the privelege of having his wife come over with him??? Did he have children before he became a POW in Scotland, and they followed with the mother???? And, if she died on the ship as some stories say, then who took care of the children (if there were any) while he was "being sold" and whatnot???
... just curious???? They're are soooo many stories out there, it is really hard to sort it out, and I thought if I was wondering these things, perhaps someone else was, as well... so, now, if someone does know the real deal, we'll all know!!! Right???
Thank you.

Dear All:

This thread is intended for posting of current URLS of other
web-sites that have information on the history or information
on the Surname or Clan. These web sites can include
archives, libraries, or just the Clan or Sept web site etc
So Clan Secretaries can keep this thread current or just
a interested member of the surname that has the
web site for their own family.

Please reply to this post and change the subject heading to
the name of the web site that is posting the news. Then keep that
thread current with news etc of your web site ( change of
address etc)

The benefit of having your own thread here is that you can
post the URL in newsletter or emails etc to newsgroup or
mailing lists etc. That way, any interested parties of the
Clan, Sept, or even a unique family group can always come
to your own web site for news and information.

The posting here will also be visible for an extended period vs
the short retention time of the mailing lists.

Please feel free to post this notice to other surname
message boards and mailing lists that would be
interested in this new message board.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Message Board Admin

Directions to site:

www.rootsweb.com
> Boards
> Topics
> Ethnic/Race
> Celtic
> Scottish Clans

Clan and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Board Admin

Ancestors postings

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread under this
thread ( just do a reply) for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting to All

John A Hansen
Board Admin
