The earliest record I have been able to trace concerning the leaders of the MacCorquodales is a short mention in the Fourth Report of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts, appendix, p. 479:
"Procutory of resignation, by Ewen M'Corquodell of Phanteslans, in favour of Sir Duncan Campbell of Lochaw and his heirs, of the patronage of the parish kirk of St. Peter, Dean of Lochaw. Dated 16th October, 1434."
A useful attempt to collect all available information on this Ewen and on the MacCorquodales of Fantilands, later to become Barons of MacCorquodale, was done years ago in a book entitled The Sons of the Baron (Edinburgh, 1932), but it is now in need of revision.
