In the book "McSherrystown" that I found in the Gettysburg Library, the front cover has a coat of arms with a fist holding 3 arrows and below a shield. Apparently Patrick knew the details of his coat of arms in which his father, Edward handed down to him. Edward was born a year before the Treaty of Limerick, so any possessions in which the family had were closely watched by King William III and Oliver Cromwell after that. Irish were coming over to America in droves volunteering for indentured servitude just to get out of Ireland. The Hodnett family, from what I gather from the historical writings, some families changed their names after Desmond collapsed and land warrants were being issued by England for new plantations to be established. So to maintain their pre-existence, alot of the old families changed their names to make it look like new people had moved in, which I thought was clever. I am surprised that Patrick waited till 1760 to immigrate to America.
