yes, it does exist. and you can go to www.clanrutherford.org for some more information. my great grandmother was a rutherford, and i have been doing a lot of research on it. i can guarentee that there is indeed a clan. i hope that this helps.

Hello everyone,

im new here, my name is Greg. i have been doing some research and i have discovered through one source that there isnt even a Rutherford Clan?? can anyone shed some light on this for me?? can somebody also point me in the right direction for research and history other than what i find on the net??

I just read your posting on the web and have just received some of our family background from my father in PA. Our family is primarily from upstate New York and we have spread out from there. Unforetunately none of the names you mentioned appear in our records which go back to the 1700's. I have to transfer the records to the computer so they are more orderly and readable. Some of our relatives were Keatly,
Walker, Ellis, Short and Hanne. Although there isn't a match in the history I have if you could go back far enough then I believe we all were related way back when.

i am a decendant of the rutherfords. my great great grandmother was a rutherford, married a mcpike. other names we have in family are perry, bridgewater, silence, and scarlett. nice to know our clan is finally starting to find each other again. my email is blue_diomand_76@yahoo.com

in my research, i have found that all rutherfords are related and date back to ireland and scotland. we are related to king ruth(er) and the ford was added after the battle of ford. that is what my research has brought up, if there is any more i can tell you, let me know, my email is blue_diomand_76@yahoo.com

Hello--I have many Rutherfords in my family(On my Mothers side)Most are deceased but im sure a few off springs still are alive.My great grandfather James Rutherford,born 1852 in Gorbals,Lanark,Scotland-His brother John born 1850-born in Barony,Lanark,Scotland .My great grandfather James married Margaret Ann Horton and their children were James M(My Grandfather),Margaret Rutherford-1878 and Thomas H rutherford-1880.My grandfather James M married Agnes Mcbride(My grandmother) their children was Joseph-1904,Elizabeth-1906,James-1908,Margaret H (My Mother)-1910,and Alfred-1917

Being a Rutherford I was asked many years ago to contribute to the book on the Rutherfords. I am not sure how it turned out as I never purchased a copy. Although the Rutherfords have gone their seperate ways, there a quite a few of us here in the US today and, I am hearing more mentioned anout our family name almost daily. I am also looking for additional past records and history on the family. I hope that some day soon I can put many of the pieces together. Let me know if you have any relatives that you are looking for and I will check our recoreds to see if there is any link.

Rutherford and Rea - PA / NJ Early 1800s

I am looking for information on Margaret A. Rutherford of Pennsylvania. She was married to George Rea in 1820-1830 and moved to Paterson, NJ where she lived, died, and is buried.

Various documents suggest that she was from Philadelphia or somewhere very close to it, other documents suggest she was from Ireland.

George and Margaret had at least 6 children including John R. (Rutherford?) Rea and William Rea.

I look forward to hearing from anyone with information on the Rutherford and Rea families. I have just recently learned the Margaret was a Rutherford, but I have a great deal of Rea information to share.

Edgerston Manor was the seat of the Scotland Rutherfurds in Southern Scotland. It still stands. Most were destroyed by the English.

Clan and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Please start a separate sub-thread under this
thread ( just do a reply) for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates
