Information on Arthur Scott and Jean Ross Lancaster County, PA

I am trying to find out information on the subject people. Apparently, Arthur Scott's ancesters which include a line of people named Arthur Scott ended up in Virginia in the 1630's, originally from Scotland. I am trying to determine the circumstances of the immigration to the United States. Was he a Jacobite (supporter of Stuart claim to throne)? Also, cannot find definate details on Jean Ross' parents. One source lists her parents as William Ross and Jean Nisbet; however, I have not seen any documentation supporting this. Any details on the subject people would be appreciated. Arthur Scott had a son by the name of Arthur Martin Scott b. 1777 married to Rebecca Samuels. Their daughter, Susan Scott b. 1816 married Charles Riddle.
Dear Lia:

Here are a few avenues to track the ancestry of
your great grandmother.

A: Rootsweb has a database that includes many of the
various posting of people that have put up their
ancestry lines.
B: The LDS ( www.familysearch.org) has a searchable
database.
C: Posting to the Scott message board and the Scott
mailing lists are generally productive
D: Search the archives at the Rootsweb mailing list for
posting on Sir Walter Scott descendants.
E: Google searchs are often good leads to compare notes.

Good Luck
John A Hansen
I am also working on the parents of Thomas Scott married to Anna Cowhick. I have his name as Thomas C. SCOTT.
The Scott family I am working on is that of James SCOTT married to Mary Cowhick (Anna's sister).

I am wondering if Thomas could be of this family because his oldest son was named Benjamin Welcome SCOTT and Benjamin is the name of James Scott's father and Welcome is the name of James' mother's (Eleanor HODGES) father - Welcome William HODGES. I do not believe he is a brother to James, as Benjamin Terry SCOTT died in 1799. He could be a nephew, as James had at least two older brothers.

I would be interested in what you think and if this information overlaps with yours. I do have some basic COWHICK information, as well as the SCOTT Family back another generation beyond Benjamin.

Barbara Craig

Dear All:

This thread is intended for posting of current URLS of other
web-sites that have information on the history or information
on the Surname or Clan. These web sites can include
archives, libraries, or just the Clan or Sept web site etc
So Clan Secretaries can keep this thread current or just
a interested member of the surname that has the
web site for their own family.

Please reply to this post and change the subject heading to
the name of the web site that is posting the news. Then keep that
thread current with news etc of your web site ( change of
address etc)

The benefit of having your own thread here is that you can
post the URL in newsletter or emails etc to newsgroup or
mailing lists etc. That way, any interested parties of the
Clan, Sept, or even a unique family group can always come
to your own web site for news and information.

The posting here will also be visible for an extended period vs
the short retention time of the mailing lists.

Please feel free to post this notice to other surname
message boards and mailing lists that would be
interested in this new message board.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Message Board Admin

Directions to site:

www.rootsweb.com
> Boards
> Topics
> Ethnic/Race
> Celtic
> Scottish Clans

Clan and Associations postings

Dear All:

This thread/topic is intended as a forum for the
Clan to post their Notices and the Clan Associations
to post their web sites, notices of meetings and
gatherings. Even Newsletters ( by permission of the
Clan officials) are permitted here.

The correct procedure for posting here is to:
A: do a reply to this message. Erase the subject heading
above and then >
B: enter the name of your association and connection
to the clan.
C: Follow on postings are then replied to that unique
association. I would think that subject and dates
would then be appropriate subject headings.

The intention is to allow the Clan to have a thread
and each respective association to have a thread that
it can maintain with its newsletters and notices.
That way the basic thread of the association can be
referenced by URL in emails and other web sites.

Please forward this message to the Clan headquarters office,
its international associations and
other affiliated groups that may be interested in
posting here. Posting this notice to the Surnames message boards
and Surname mailing list or sending to Secretary of the
Clan, the Clan Associations and the Septs of the Clan
would also be appreciated.

Best Regards
John A Hansen
Board Admin

Ancestors postings

Dear All:

Please start a separate sub-thread under this
thread ( just do a reply) for each Clan ancestor.

The thread on this board (and the mailing list) is intended for
comments, hints on how to locate, and discussions
on those distant ancestors ( sometimes brick walls) that are
very hard to locate. Anyone with knowledge of the
Clan Ancestors or searching for ancestors and especially
the Clan Genealogist are especially encouraged to post
their finding on the Clan ancestors.

Please do not use this board for merely looking for
recent descendants. That function is better in the
Surname message boards and mailing lists.

Use the standard procedure in the subject header of
inserting your family ancestor information in the following format
NAME > location > dates

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting to All

John A Hansen
Board Admin
