Alvin Sam Stewart
Alvin Sam Stewart, 96, of Abilene, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Community Memorial Funeral
Home Chapel, 1442 North 2nd St., with George Ewing officiating. Burial will be in
the Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart was born in Dublin, Texas on November 3, 1905. He came to Abilene
from Petty, Texas in 1957 and was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
During World War II, he worked for the government at Camp Barkley and at Mare
Island in California. For ten years he was the parking lot attendant at Cooper High
School. In 1936, he married Minnie Marie Campbell in Hamlin. She preceded him in
death in 1984.
His survivors include five sons, Walter Finley Stewart of Las Cruces, NM, Alvin
Edward Stewart of Vacaville, CA, John Edd Stewart of Frankston, TX, Ronnie
LeRoy Stewart of Houston, and Lynn Carlton Stewart of Abilene; 14 grandchildren;
11 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Walter Sam Stewart and Nancy Emma Mason Stewart; one
son, Bobby Joe Stewart; three sisters, and one brother.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the funeral home.
Poster's Notes: I am not related. Mr. Stewart died at a time that Abilene, Texas was experiencing flooding.
