Looking for help to identify an old postcard which I have here - one of a series published circa 1908 of Scottish Clan Leaders and Aristocracy.
Most of the subjects of these cards I have been able to identify clearly by searching the net, but this one has defeated me - there appears to be nothing online regarding the head of Stewart of Appin from about the 18th Century through to the 16th incumbent in the mid 20th Century.
Titled, "MacIain Stiubhaird na h-Apunn (Stewart of Appin)", the card features a half length portrait of a relatively young man - interestingly (significantly ?) this is the only card in the series where the subject is not in traditional Scottish dress.
Can anyone tell me more of this individual - I am guessing that he must have been the 13th or 14th of Appin but beyond that, I have drawn a blank.
I have this image online - If you want to see it, please use the url below -
