Dear Stephen
I have just decided to google the Appin Stewart clan & came across your entry.Through the genesreunited site a few years ago I was able to contact 2 remote cousins in Scotland & was thus able to expand my research. My Grandfather was Donald Stewart-MacInnes & his Mother was an Appin Stewart. We have followed her family back to 1700. In 1963 & 2002 I spent some time in Oban & visited Appin several times.Castle Stalcair(Stalker) was built as a hunting lodge for their kinsman King James but after his death they lost it to the Campbells. The French spelling of the name is incorrect, it should always be Stewart as they were the descendants of Walter, High Steward of Scotland who married the daughter of Robert the Bruce. Steward becoming Stewart.
