A Dr. Michael Wallace migrated to Maryland about 1734 directly from Glasgow. Genealogical lineages and Y-DNA matches trace the lineage of Dr. Michael Wallace to a William Wallace, merchant in Glasgow born about 1645. This William Wallace is identified in both Hayden's VIRGINIA GENEALOGIES and Rogers' BOOK OF WALLACE. The mother of this William Wallace is reported to have been a Stewart. There is excellent Y-DNA evidence that descendants of Dr. Michael Wallace, those claiming descent from Peter Wallace and a number of other Wallace families migrating to this country as early as the late 1600s were closely related as and descend from a common male parent and lineage extending to the beginning of genealogical time. Very recent Y-DNA studies suggest these Wallaces were, and remain, of a Y-DNA type rather uncommon in Scotland then and as of today. Y-DNA studies also suggest that some Stewarts relate closely to this Y-DNA type today.
