I have always had it drummed into my head by relatives that our Watson family is of clan Macgregor, but that we display the Buchanan plaid (tartan).
I believe that this could be due to the Macgregor name being banned in 1630. However, Watson is clearly identified as a sept of clan Buchanan.
Can anyone diect me to documentation?
