I have been trying to find my great granparents. its a family mystery.
I have a photo of them (pic attached), and I have an American document filled out by some American, ( pic attached) who I am sure spelled thier name wrong. She spelled it phonetically - Kulluncies. that is not my great grandparents hand writing.
When they came to America, it was changed to Kallom I have it spelled like Kallam also.
My grandmother pronoucned it like this-- Kool lauhn Veech
but the spelling the on the document looks like it could be Cheech not Veech.
My nieghbor is Bosnian she said it could of been spelled like this: Kuloncic.
In America their first names were Mary and Frank 1920 and 1940 Cenus says they are from Hungary.
They were known to tell their friends and nieghbors they were from Germany.
Frank was born about 1885 arrived about 1911. his mothers name is possibly Zingler or Singler.
Mary was born about 1893 arrived about 1912 , her maiden name is Zundel.
My grandmother was born in July of 1912 - I get the feeling that my great grandmother Mary came the same time with frank because how was she able to concieve a child when frank was here one year earlier.
Also Frank had a Brother named Marten who changed his name to Kallom. born about 1888 arrived about 1907 on the census records he has Austria has his birth place.
Frank and Mary didnt have any practice any sort of religion.
I am certain that their first names were not Mary, Frank or Marten, either.
thanks to anyone that can help me.
ps. I have discounted the 1930 census records, they were tampered with , the census taker listed most everyone in the community was from Austria and then scratched if off and replaced it with Poland.
