Georgea,
The ideal situation would be for the diocese to photocopy the actual church marriage entries rather than relying on someone else to decipher bad penmanship and give you what they think they read.
Our parish priest sent my parents a copy of my grandparents church register entry from 1920 and apologized that he couldn't read it. Partly this was due to the penmanship and partly because it was written in Latin.
After some effort on my part, I was able to decipher it and decode all that had been written down.
If you are lucky, it will be an ethnic church where the pastor took pride in his penmanship and attention to detail.
Good luck.
