Szatkowski, Hacek in Chicago early 1900s

I'm trying to help a friend who will be visiting Poland in November find where in Poland her family comes from so that she can visit - LONG SHOT, I know, but I'm trying! Any help would be appreciated as I am unfamiliar with spelling and pronunciation of these names as well as the history of the borders/wars in this area of the world. Here is what I have so far:

We begin with a mystery...
Matthew Szatkowski (6 or 7 July 1915 - 17 Oct 1983, buried at Resurrection Cemetery, sister: Sophie Bonk) married Cecilia Hacek (22 July 1918 - July 1993, had a second husband: Adam Krolczyk) - can't find a marriage record, divorce record, birth record for either of them, but they appear to have been born in the USA and lived in the southern part of Chicago, very Polish neighborhood, apparently. These are my friend's grandparents.

Matthew's parents (per his death certificate) were:

Albert Szatkowski (born about 1876 in Poland) and Catherine Chwalisz (born about 1884 in German Poland??) per US census records. I haven't been able to find a marriage record for this couple either. I may have found an immigration record for Albert, but I really can't read the record (on Ancestry) very well, so I'm not confident. That's the end of this line so far...

Cecilia's parents (per my friend's information) were:

Louis James Hacek (26 May 1891 in Czechoslovakia - 20 July 1953 in Chicago, buried at Resurrection Cemetery) married Antonette (Anna?) Andrezewski (4 June 1890 in Poland - maybe 1967 in Chicago?? - I've sent for the SS App.). Again, no marriage record, possible immigration records, but cannot confirm at this point.

Per Louis's death certificate, his parents were:

Carl Hacek and Eva Otcovska - this per the informant, Cecilia Szatkowski, Louis's daughter!

So....HELP!! I'm basically scrolling through records for hours while I wait for the Social Security Application for Cecilia to arrive, hoping to find something that makes sense but may be spelled a bit differently. I'm sure someone who is familiar with this language/culture/area would have some advice, right??

Thanks in advance!
Alicia

Origin of the heart-shaped face

Hello there - I am researching face shapes online. I am looking for information on the origin of the heart-shaped face, and seemed to be directed to the slavic/southern slavic area of Europe. Can anyone pinpoint the tribe/nation that has the most frequent occurence of the heart-shaped face? Thank you.

Andrews, John S.

I am looking for family information on John S. Andrews, born 29 August 1899 in Illinois (I suspect Cook County). I have not found him on 1900 and 1910 Federal Census records. In one document (Rhode Island state census) he lists both of his parents as having been born in Poland. My assumption is there was a name change to andrzejewiski, or some other Polish equivalent of Andrews. At this point, I do not know what name or spelling the family used after immigration from Poland. Anybody have an idea how to proceed?

Re: Opalewski and Opeilinski and Opal

The following I posted 3 years ago and recieved no response. I am hoping posting it again might bring some stories. The name Opal is also used by the Opalewski. I know Sigmund in the following used Opal and was confirmed by his wife. All I want is some stories to share with my children to past down to their children. This was all stolen from me because of my parents divorce and no connection with dad or his side of his family. I hope some one out there can help in this area.
I would love some family history and stories of the Opalewski and Opeilinski from Chicago. There were alot of them
Theodore and Pearl Opalewski
Children
Sophia, Sigmund, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Valentine, Mary or Marie
Frank and Kate Opeilinski
Children
Pelagia (Pearl), Michael, Veronica, Vaclaw or Waclaw, Ludwig (Louis), Thomas.
This is the only family I can truly trace back to verify my nationality and would love some family history to pass down to my children. Please help if you can.
Thanks for all the info. I have pretty much the same information in my tree, but I think I have a couple of errors. I have John Renkosik married to Julia Adannryk, not Julia Odowzczyk. All the siblings you mentioned are the same ones I have in my records, with the exception of two sisters I found, Maryanna and Helena, not Gertrude and Magdelena (although Helena was born Dec 1856, and could be Magdelena.) These mistakes could easily be mine, and if you're sure of these names I'll change my records.

Marcin was born in Zakrzewie in the Parish of Miejscisko in 1840 and married Petronela at the parish of Kcyni in 1865, imm. 1881.
Daughter Mary, son X. Teodora J. Renkosiak of Little Falls, Minn. and Bowlus , Minn. There is a picture of Brygida and Elsbieta in a group. My translating might be a little off and I do not have the whole book, so there may be more.

I'm sure of Gertrude (15 Nov 1846-23 Jan 1847 Bialosliwie) and Magdalena (31 Dec 1857 -?). Found thier records in the Kosztowo records. John Renkosik & Julia Odowzczyck had daughters named Mary/Marie born 1881 in Poland and died 20 July 1913 in La Salle and Helen who married Harry Manicki on 14 Nov 1904 at St. Hyacinth in La Salle. I found Julia's maiden name as Adamczyk on Helen's county marriage license and Odowzczyk on her record at church. So there is a question as to what Julia's maiden name really was.
John & Julia's other children were Martin, Anna, Sallie, Pearl and Louise.
Maybe the Maryanna and Magdalena you found are from the Chicago Renkosiks.
The St, Stanislaus Kostka Church, Chicago Jubilee Book 1917 has pictures of Kasimierz & Julia Renkosiak. The entry is in Polish. What I can make out is the Kazimierz was born in cyni w Wielkiem Ksiestwie Poznanskiem; imm. at age 36 and was the son of Marcin & Petronela.
Ma dwoch braci : X: Theodora i Wladyslawa, oraz dwie siostry, Marye i Jadwige (zamezna Nikielska)
Julianna Renkosiak was born in Chicago to Pawla i Francisca Warczak. Married Kazimierz at St. Stanislaus at age 28. ch. Najstarsza Zofia (M. Wladyslaw Kipkowski); Keliks (m. Francisca Gabryszewski; Brygida, Elzbieta, Wiktorya i Florentyna.
Have you been to the PGSA webpage? They have databases for wedding and deaths in Chicago that include some of these names.

My great-grandmother's sister, Cecilia Kozak aka Kossak was married to Joseph Renkosik (1862 -1934) of La Salle, IL. His parents were Anton Renkosik & Marianna Sosnowski of Bialosliwie, Wirsitz, Poznan. Joseph and his siblings were all born in Bialosliwie and their baptisms in the Parish of Kosztowo.
His siblings were Elizabeth (m. Martin Kasza); Gertrude, Johanna, John (m. Julia Odowzczyk), Magdalena, & Teofila. As far as I know only Joseph & Elizabeth immigrated and the children of John to La Salle. I did not find a relationship to the Chicago Renkosiks or a Casimir/Charles in this line but then my interest was Kozak.

Hi there! Thank you for your reply to my posting. I'm looking for information about a Kasimir (Charles) Renkosiak 1891-1965 and a Kasimir (Charles) Renkosiak 1868-1943.

I'm also looking for a link from the Renkosiak family to the Renkosik family. I need information about Joseph Renkosik 1862-1934, and his father Anthony Renkosik, probably born around the 1840's.

Thank you,
Susan

Ziolkowskis of Chicago, Illinois
I have no further information on great grandfather, Louis Ziolkowski's parents or siblings from Poland. But I do know that Louis Ziolkowski had several children by his first wife and their names were;
1.) Louis Ziolkowski JR
2.) Francis (Aunt Fran) Ziolkowski
3.) Josephine (Josie) Ziolkowski
4.) Sophie Ziolkowski
5.) Teresa Ziolkowski
6.) Helen Ziolkowski
****Antoinette Barbara Ziolkowski born 6 Jan 1891 in Chicago Illinois. (My grandmother),
After Louis Ziolkowski Sr's first wife died, Louis married 2nd and had these children;
7.) Verna Ziolkowski
8.) Lottie Ziolkowski
9.) Stella Ziolkowski
10.) Roman Ziolkowski
***I am pretty sure this last set of children were born around the Chicago area. With exceptions of my grandmother whom I know was born in Chicago some of the older children could have been born in Poland. I would like to have further info on the spouses of these children. Also who were the wifes of Louis Ziolkowski. What happened to him and his wifes? When and where did they die, and where are they buried?
Thank you for any help or leads. My aunt once told me the Ziolkowski family were all of the Catholic faith and there should be lots of records in some of the local Catholic churches for births and marriages on the family.
How interesting! What was your grandmother's name before she married? And after she married? And where did she live? Did she also move to Chicago?

Do you know how they were cousins?

I did not know Sophie Labunko myself; I only posted her obituary as a random service to the genealogy community, because I had some extra time that day. I hope it helps you find more relatives. :)

Michael or Anthony Wozniak/Wozurak

Upon her arrival, in 1907, my great grandmother, Franciszka RESLER was apparently on her way to visit her brother-in-law, Michael WOZNIAK in Hawthorn?, IL. She was accompanied by Anthony WOZURAK, age 31, Michael's brother; Josef CELMER, age 23, Michael's brother-in-law; and Stanislaw GRZESKITWITZ, Michael's nephew. Does anyone have information on these?

Masto should be Maslo on Census

I have found all along in my research that my grandparents were very secretive and afraid of whatever happened in Poland before they came to the US. I just now found them in the 1910 census after searching for years. I am still looking for them on the 1920 census. I guess they finally relaxed a bit because I had no problem finding the family on the 1930 census.
On the 1910 census, they are listed as John and Petronella Masto both from Italy. Their last name should be Maslo and I know they were born in the Tarnow region of Poland(Austria at the time). Is there anyone else who has run into these types of roadblocks in their research?

Dziennik Chicagoski archives

I have just learned that notices of the deaths of a family member and his 2nd wife appeared in that paper in September 1967 and August of 1957 respectively. I would like the full text of the death notices...

I am hoping that they lead me to other family members. The husband, who came to America by himself to earn enough to bring over other family members, divorced his first wife when she delivered a child a year after he left for the US! He later married a Polish Catholic in Chicago. I assume that he converted in order to marry her. How do I find out where and when he converted?

Two granddaughters who I have finally traced, after years and years of research, refuse to give me any information or even tell me where these grandparents are interred.

The two in question are:

Adler, Julia DOD 8/2/1957
maiden name: Koza reported 3 Aug 1957

Adler, Oscar DOD 9/27/1967
wife's maiden name: Koza, Julia reported 28 Sep 1967
