I have a question regarding Irish names...what does it mean when someone replaces the last half of a first name with " ick "? As a couple of examples, one of my Great Uncles stated his father's name as "Cornick" on his WW1 Draft Card when it was actually Cornelius. Also, I remember my Great Grandfather used to call my Grandfather "Walick" (his name was actually Walter).
Is this a term of endearment? Just curious
