Tips needed for Irish research

Hi,
I have had little to no sucess in finding any of my ancestors in Ireland. I can't seem to come across any decent information. Is there a good website where i can search birth records? or marriage records? The passenger lists seem so limited and they're all going to America. My family have gone from ireland to Liverpool. Names I'm looking into are Alice McCann 1888, her sister Nelle McCann and father Patrick. Eliza Colgan 1848 and her father Arthur. Lawrence keenan. and many many more.

James was born about 1866, married Isabelle about 1890 and immegrated to the USA February 1892. Isabelle's family (mother - Margaret Beatty, brothers - Thomas & John, and sisters - Elizabeth, Margaret, and one more) move to US before 1900. I would love to hear from relatives or anyone researching these roots. His nationalization papers listed Lisneakey.

My grandmother's family Bible lists Irish descent, I hope someone may have further information that can point me in the right direction. Thank you to anyone who may be of assistance. He may originated in the South Carolina, USA area or imigrated here in the late 1700's.

My question is two-fold:

What does it mean when someone says they are "Black Irish"? Based on my family, I cannot conclude that it has anything to do with skin color.

Also, does anyone have information on any branches of the McCaghren family that would have been labeled Black Irish?

I appreciate any info.
Irish immigrants from the Ulster provinces of Ire. > America > Nova Scotia c1700's

I am searching for some shred of evidence that my 5th grt. grandfather's Parents, possibly Jameson (James) MOODY and his wife known only as "Martha" who came from Northern Ireland most likely during the 1700's Ulster-Scot immigration period, stayed for a while in Londonderry, New Hampshire, where 3 of their children are recorded in the VR's of Londonderry, NH and one being son James Moody b. Aug. 1755 whom I suspect to be my 5th grt. grandfather, and daughters Janet and Eleanor Moody.

They just disappear from the records after 1759 when daugh. Elinor/Eleanor Moody was born. I have heard speculation that they might have gone to the Truro area of Nova Scotia with many of the other families who fled Londonderry, NH before the outbreak of the Rev. War.
However I cannot find any information on this.
DNA has proven we do not descend from the Moody families of England and our surname project has many of them, but we do have a slight linking (not a bonafide exact match so far) to those who were in Northern Ireland who probably have Scottish roots.

If anyone knows of this Jameson/James Moody b.c1728 I guess, and his wife Martha who had at least 3 children James, Janet and Elinor/Eleanor Moody all three births recorded in Londonderry, New Hampshire, USA, anywhere in Canada at this stage, I would be Most Greatful for any information on them.
Thank You very much.

Question about Irish names

Hello all,
I have a question regarding Irish names...what does it mean when someone replaces the last half of a first name with " ick "? As a couple of examples, one of my Great Uncles stated his father's name as "Cornick" on his WW1 Draft Card when it was actually Cornelius. Also, I remember my Great Grandfather used to call my Grandfather "Walick" (his name was actually Walter).
Is this a term of endearment? Just curious

Irish Pilgrimmage to Gross-Ile, Quebec from Montreal

Hello Everyone,

The Annual Irish Pilgrimmage to Gross-Ile, Quebec, memorial sight to thousands of Irish emigrants who perished on the journey to Canada during the Great Famine, is taking place Saturday, August 6, 2005.

The event includes the luxury coach trip to Quebec City, a 45 min. ferry ride to the island of Gross-Ile, lots of Irish history, folklore and trivia and of course admission to the memorial site. The event will not only be a chance to pay hommage to those who lost their lives on the journey to the promised land, but in the true Irish tradition, one hell of a shin-dig as well!

The event is being organized by the Montreal chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a group that has been in existence since the middle-ages and whose modern purpose is to preserve the Irish culture and heritage in North America.

The group will meet in N.D.G. and leave EARLY on the morning of the 6th - 6:00 a.m. to be exact, so if you're not a morning person you had better be dedicated! The cost of the trip, including all that was mentioned above is $70.00 CAD. It is well worth every penny I assure you, and, all proceeds go to helping the AOH continue to be a helping and positive presence in not only the Irish community but all of Montreal. If you are interested, or for more information about the trip or the AOH please contact Victor Boyle (514) 928-7196 or INFO@AOH-MONTREAL.COM

Family lore has it that my family Normiles IRE-NY-WI 1852-1865-70, were French-Irish. And were French-Irish in Ireland before their emigration to US.

Anyone have anything on French-Irish intermarriage, contacts etc.- when such might have occurred and so forth?

Thank you.

Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts has put online "Missing Friends" columns from the "Boston Pilot" which ran from 1831 to 1921 and were from people looking for lost friends and relations who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States.
Marriage Question

I have 2 ggrandparents that came from Ireland. I was always told that my ggrandfather came from County Cork and that his wife came from Dublin. They both immigrated to the US seperately, married and lived in NJ. I found them in the census records and they both stated that they were from Northern Ireland. Does anyone know of any reason why they would say they were from Northern Ireland if they were not. I'd love to hear some thoughts on this. I've spent lots of years trying to find out where they are from in Ireland. Suggestions would be appreciated. They immigrated in the 1890's, born in the 1870's., if this helps.

I am searching for records of Irish arriving in the US in 1795. So far I have found none. My gg grandfather received his citizenship in 1808 in Carlisle, PA. He was 9 years old in 1795 when he arrived from Ireland. I do not know where he arrived or with whom he came. I was hoping to find a ship's passenger list that might give me a lead, but I have not found any for 1795. Surely there must have been some Irish who arrived in 1795?

Thanks for any help.
Bob Phillips

William Moore(b1814) Ireland--->Delaware--->Ohio Mid 1800's
My GGG-Grandfather came from Ireland in the mid part of the 1800's. I have looked him up in the 1880 Census and found him in Ohio, but two of his children and his wife were born in Delaware. I don't have access to the pay census records because i'm a poor college student...lol :o) Here is the info I have on him so far:

I am looking for information on my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather. He came from Ireland sometime in the mid 1800's. I found him on the 1880 Census in Ohio, and would eventually like to know where in Ireland he came from.

His name was William Moore born in about 1814 in Ireland. According to the 1880 Census his wife was Annie Moore(born about 1834 in Delaware) They had 4 children; John(b.1861 in Delaware), Alice(b. 1863 in Delaware), Louis(my g-g-grandfather born in 1869/68 in Ohio), and Mary(b.1874 in Ohio). He also had his Sister living with him at the time and her name was Maggie L. Moore (b.1854 in Delaware). Since there is such an age gap between his sister and himself and according to the census her mother was born in DE, they were only half siblings. I'm not sure when he would have come to the US, just some time before 1860 probably. At the time of the 1880 census he was 66.

Any information anyone can give me would be extremely helpful...this is my first time.

Thanks,
Lori

The Father and Mother of Clarence Lawrence who is married to Ruth Carr

I am doing a geneology report at school and need some information on my mother's side of the family. My mother told me that her grandfather's father was Irish. His name is Clarence Lawrence and it would be of much help if anyone could tell me what his parent's names are. If it helps, Clarence's daughter's name is Georgia Lawrence and she was married to Dale Coate. Thanks for the assitance.

Thomas Joseph Royce claimed to be born in Ireland, the year would be 1873-1875. He claims to be of Irish origin. Father's name possibly Thomas. Thomas Joseph ended up in Mercur, Tooele, Utah with John C. Royce from Pennsylavania. I don't know the connection of Thomas J. to John C. but would much like to!
Moran, Spanish or Irish

Does the origin matter, I am a decendent of the Irish Morans. My son is half Irish and half Spanish (Republic of Panama).

I consider all Morans brothers or sisters; Irish, Spanish, French, Lebanonese, it doesn't matter. We are all related some how.
