Thank you for your answer on T.C. Fitzgibbon. It would seem to explain his absence from Detroit after 1866. It is true that Thomas enlisted as a Captain in the 14th Michigan in late 1861 at the age of 27. I suppose it could be possible for him to have a 13 year old son then but perhaps, if this is the same man, the son joined him a bit later?
I am wondering about the article you mentioned. Is it available on line? Any idea when it was written?
